Why is WTE Critical Infrastructure for New York?

Local Governments & Their Partners Advancing Waste-to-Energy in NY

Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facilities in New York State play a critically important role in managing waste and providing renewable, base-load energy in communities across the state.

NYSWTEC will educate policy makers in Albany and Washington with the goal of protecting valuable waste-to-energy facilities so they can continue to provide vital services to the communities they serve.

New York’s WTE Facilities:

Avoid landfilling more than 6.5 million tons of solid waste annually.*

Produce 544 megawatts of electricity 24/7/365.

Annually reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 6.5 million tons of CO2.

Recycle 212,000 tons of metal a year, enough to build 156,000 cars.
